The amateur tournament for professional minds

9 registered 1st category RFEG (0-4.4)
Up to twenty 1-digit handicap players (one third of the participants)

In the absence of only 3 days for the previous Medal of the seventeenth edition of the Match Play Las Américas that begins its journey this Saturday, May 22, a potential first category is being configured to frame, which will undoubtedly hold subsequent match play of a higher level than all previous editions.

Up to twenty 1-digit handicaps have been signed up to date, which amounts to a third of all registered today. But, in addition, almost half of these 1-digit handicaps –up to 9 players– are part of the 1st category of the RFEG (from 0 to 4.4). And a total of 15 players in the 2nd category of the RFEG (hcp from 4.5 to 11.4).

A poster of authentic luxury for a match play that year after year consolidates itself as an informal Tenerife championship in match play mode. In the top 5 of the players with the lowest handicap registered to date, are Glenn Davies (0.3), Damian Spencer (1.3), César Fernández de Caleya (1.8), María Velázquez (hcp 1.9) and Guillermo Moreno Masiá (2.4).

We remember that, as every year, the cut between 1st and 2nd category will be determined after the results of the previous medal this Saturday. The previous medal will also settle the table of individual matches, and will serve to regulate the handicap of each player for the entire competition. The playoffs and the finals are going to hold some spectacular crossovers. . Low handicaps should be extremely concentrated in the first rounds, since the heats are under the matchplay handicap modality, which is why “giant killers” will surely emerge again, leaving the seeds in the ditch. It is the magic of match play and the element that equates our fantastic sport of golf, the handicap, raised to its maximum expression.

Of the 61 registered today, 75% belong to the first 3 categories of the RFEG, a clear example of the leveling off of this edition, which grows year after year at an unstoppable rate.

We encourage all amateur players to join this new edition of Match Play Las Américas. Emotion and adrenaline guaranteed for 2 months of competition. Are you sure you want to stay out of it? Be part of the best cast of matchplay players in Tenerife.
