Choosing the right tee

🏌🏼‍♀️ Choosing the right tee… for you

Maximise your enjoyment on the course.

Golf is a game of skill, strategy and, above all, enjoyment. One of the most important aspects in ensuring an enjoyable round is choosing the right tee from which to play. At Golf Las Américas we offer four tees for each hole: white tees for male professionals, blue tees for female professionals, yellow tees for male amateurs and red tees for female amateurs. However, if you’re playing a casual round and not bound by official competition rules, you’re free to choose the tee that best suits your skill level -regardless of gender or amateur status.

Play to your level, not just the rules

Traditionally, tee choices have been determined by gender or professional status, but modern golf trends encourage players to make choices based on their playing ability and overall enjoyment. This approach ensures that every golfer, from beginner to expert, can experience the course as it was designed to be played. Before you start your round, take a good look at the course layout, assess your handicap and think about your strengths and weaknesses. This simple preparation can greatly enhance your day on the course.

For example, if you’re a female golfer, you might automatically gravitate towards the red tees. However, if your handicap suggests a higher skill level, you may find the yellow tees a more rewarding challenge. Similarly, a male amateur with a high handicap may find it more satisfying to play from the red tees rather than the traditional yellow -shorter distances can help keep the game moving and build confidence.

On the other hand, if you’re a male golfer with a single digit handicap, you could challenge yourself by stepping up to the white tees. This can give you a completely different perspective of the course and turn your casual round into a rewarding test of skill.

Agreeing on tees for better pace of play

For casual rounds with friends, it’s often a good idea to agree to play as a group from the same tees, provided everyone’s skill level is similar and there are no significant differences in ability. This will help keep the pace of play even and ensure that no one has to wait too long between holes. Coordinating tee times between foursome members can make the game more enjoyable for everyone while keeping the flow of play consistent.

One tee for the whole round

Consistency is key when it comes to teeing off. To fully appreciate the design and flow of the course, it’s important to play the same tee for your entire round. For example, if you decide to play from the blue tees on hole 1, you should play from the blue tees for all 18 holes. This will ensure a consistent experience and allow you to take advantage of the course’s intended challenges and rewards.

Analogies and takeaways

Think of tee selection as choosing a difficulty level in a video game. If it’s too easy, you might lose interest; if it’s too hard, frustration sets in. But if the level matches your ability, the experience will be enjoyable and fulfilling. Similarly, adjusting your starting point on the course ensures that every shot feels achievable yet challenging.

The beauty of casual golf is its flexibility.

By embracing the freedom to choose your tees based on your game rather than tradition, you can improve both your performance and your enjoyment. So the next time you head out for a round at Golf Las Américas, remember that the aim is to have fun while challenging yourself. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced golfer, it’s the right tee that will make your round the most memorable.

Happy golfing!
