Today’s Doodle celebrates this North Atlantic island nation— known for its glaciers, geysers, and volcanoes—where festivities will take place in every town and village, particularly in the capital city of Reykjavík.

Official ceremonies include speeches, a rendition of Iceland’s national anthem, "Lofsöngur,” and a poem read by Fjallkonan, "the lady of the mountain," a symbol of Iceland dressed in the national costume known as Skautbúningur. Iceland has a long tradition of strong feminine role models and was the first country to elect a female head of state in 1980.

This past Sunday, Golf Las Américas celebrated the Father's Day together with numerous parents and their children of all ages, who joined the celebration of this important family day in the UK. Our Golf course located in the Canary Islands wished to support the celebration of this special festivity with this event and unite families on the course.

Throughout the past week, Golf Las Américas has placed the Union Jack on the pins of the holes as a tribute to the United Kingdom during this special week, in which the most important female amateur golf tournament was held: the Women's Amateur Championship in the Northern Irish course of County Down Golf Club, with the final winner as the English Emily Toy.

Golf Las Américas, located in the south of the island of Tenerife, is a 18-hole garden in the heart of Playa de Las Américas. The centre is very well connected, easy to get to and recognised for its excellent state of maintenance and the speed of its greens, with an annual average temperature of 23ºC. About 2/3 of the players who visit this beautiful course are of British origin and it is for this reason that our Team have adapted to provide a warm welcome for British players with different events, promotions and celebrations throughout the year.

The 4+1 offer during a major returns!

After the success of this online campaign proposed by the Golf Las Américas Academy during the last Masters of Augusta, in which our visitors and also resident players benefited from a 4+1 offer in golf lessons (booking 4 classes of 1 hour, we give you 1 as an extra bonus), we will launch again this promotion in accordance with another major of the golf season: the 119th US Open Championship, which starts today in the emblematic Californian course of Pebble Beach.

Up to 12 tournament champions become part of the field, highlighting the third-time champion Tiger Woods (who won again this season at one of the greatest, the Masters) and second-time champions Brooks Koepka (current world number 1 ) and Ernie Els. Also the numbers 2 and 3 of the World Ranking, Dustin Johnson and Rory Mcilroy, as well as Justin Rose or Martin Kaymer are other players who already know what winning the US Open means.

Golf Las Américas want to also highlight to you the participation of the Canarian representative Rafa Cabrera Bello, Top40 of the world, who shares his match today with Kevin Na and Keegan Bradley. The other Spaniards are Sergio García (played with Hideki Matsuyama and Tommy Fleetwood), and Jon Rahm (current number 13 worldwide), who debuted in the 3rd biggest event of the year with a real match (with Rory McIlroy and Marc Leishman). The 4th  Spanish player is the debutant Adrià Arnaus, who in his first year on the European Tour ventured to play the US Open preview at Walton Heath and obtained a historical classification. The Catalan player trained at the Texas A&M and it will be the first time he plays at Pebble Beach.

FATHER'S DAY · SUNDAY 16th OF JUNE

Golf Las Américas would like to encourage you to share 18 holes with your father or your son/daughter. If you are the daughter or son, we invite your father now to disconnect from his daily routine together with you. And if you are a Dad yourself, we invite your child to play full 18 holes with you. Starting from today until this coming Sunday, 16th of June 2019, you can book online 2GF 18 holes with the promotional code FATHER to play on any day this summer (until 30th of September) and you only have to pay for your green fee. Your father's or your kid's green fee, is on us!

Handicap & age
Our favourite sport differs from all the others through a great innovation: the handicap. This allows you to match the level of any other player and therefore means that a beginner can compete in the same course with a medium or advanced level golfer.
There is another point to note in golf. It is a sport that can be practiced at any age and having an advanced age does not imply any considerable disadvantage with respect to a younger opponent, as it has less specific physical conditions as is the case with most others. So to sum up: a father of about 40 years of age can play with his son of 16, but also with his own father close to 70, in a match made up of no less than 3 full generations.

Family-natured sport
These two points that we have highlighted: the equality generated by the handicap and the fact that there is no age limit to play, allows Golf to be an ideal activity to share with the whole family. Fathers, mothers, children, grandparents, nephews... All of them can play together and enjoy a day of golf without limits. This is without doubt one of the secrets of amateur golf. For this same reason it is not unknown that the majority of golf players will admit that they were initiated into their sport by the hand of their parent or a relative, when they started joining them on the course. Take note, for example, of any interview with a professional golfer from any circuit: be it PGA tour, European tour, LPGA tour or LET, or our Seve Ballesteros PGA Tour, once the interviewer inquires about the first steps into the world of pro golf they will often recognize that there was family involved.

For all of these reasons and many more: we wish to celebrate this family-natured sport of ours at Golf Las Américas with parents and daughters/sons on this special day, for which we propose a new online promotion. We would like to encourage you to share a Golf day with your father or your child.

Countries
In Europe, this Saturday the 16th of June, Father's Day is celebrated in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Greece, Bulgaria and Malta. In the rest of the world it is also celebrated in countries such as the United States or ones with the Anglo-Saxon culture attached to them, such as Canada, India, South Africa, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka, but also in Latin American countries such as Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela, Ecuador or Cuba, among others.

2x1 promo code FATHER

We would like to see parents and sons/daughters of all ages this summer sharing 4 hours of game on our course, to later discuss the different challenges of each hole from our Clubhouse terrace, overlooking the 18th Green. You have from today until this Sunday to make your reservation, in order to play the day you want throughout this summer (remember to add the promotional code FATHER to get this 2x1). An amateur golfer playing at Golf Las Américas

Golf Las Américas would like to highlight the 116th edition of the Womens Amateur Championship staged by the R&A, the most important amateur golf tournament for women in Europe. The Royal County Down Golf Club (Newcastle, Northern Ireland) hosts the tournament until Saturday 15th of July. Along with the United States Women's Amateur Golf Championship, it is considered the highest honor in women's amateur golf.

The historic women's tournament returns this week to the United Kingdom after 6 years (the last tournaments were held in Germany, Ireland, Sweden, France and Denmark). For this reason Golf Las Américas have placed the Union Jack on the 18th green, in honor of one of the oldest women's golf tournament.

The former British Ladies Amateur Golf Championship was founded in 1893 by the Ladies Golf Union and was first played at Royal Lytham and St Annes with Lady Margaret Scott crowned the champion. The German Leonie Harm (University of Houston) is the current champion

5 Spaniards have won this tournament in all the history, and all of them during the first decade of the current century. The Andalusian Marta Prieto (2001), Belén Mozo (2006) and the 2012 LPGA Sybase Match Play champion Azahara Muñoz (2009); the Catalan Elisa Serramià (2003) and the winner of two LPGA tournaments and 13th Rolex Ranking Carlota Ciganda from Navarre (2007). This year the Canarian Eva Martínez Calavia participates with 16 other Spanish players.

The Womens Amateur Championship consists of five days. At the end of the second only the 64 best players of the 143 participants will find accommodation in the game table. At that point, direct eliminatory starts for the title.
The winner gains entry to the AIG Women’s British Open, US Women’s Open, The Evian Championship and Augusta National Women's Amateur Championship as well as lifting the historic trophy.
