Glossy ibis is a wading bird with a long, curved bill, and reddish-brown tones. It is a cosmopolitan species with a wide distribution, but very fragmented.

It usually breeds in southern and eastern Europe, Africa and Madagascar, central and southern Asia, the Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea, and Australia,
as well as North America and the Caribbean islands.

Seasonal visitor status, non-breeding in the Canary Islands according to the Canary Islands Ornithological Society.
